A World Series Editorial by mikeyG
The Yankees are the World Series
Champs. Sounds like the end of a re-run that you've seen four times. With
the exception of Metropolitan New York, Nobody could have cared less about
the series. The one bright spot about the fall classic was the fact that
the Mets had made it to the series as a wild card entry. To all of those
faithful Yankee-hating Bostonians, the Mets seemed like the only hope to
prevent the monotony of another Yankee championship. To all those who did
care about the series, The Yanks pulled it out over the Mets in 5 games.
Each one of the games was a close battle determined by the pitching. The
controversial aspect of the series was found in game 2 when Roger Clemens
faced Mike Piazza after already beaning the Met catcher during a regular
season game. Piazza fouled off a pitch in the first in which his bat had
shattered and a jagged end of the bat was fielded by Clemens who in return
tossed it down the first base path in the general direction of Piazza.
A hefty fine was placed on Clemens following the incident. Other than that,
the series was marked with low television ratings, late endings, and baseball
action appealing to New York and nobody else. If anybody benefited from
this Subway Series, it was the city of New York, not baseball or anybody
else. Best wishes to the 29 other teams for next year. Please end this
re-run of Yankee success!!
Olympic Baseball Results : The baseball action is closed
in Sydney and the triumphs of victory are held by the United States who
are the current gold medalists. Silver honors were bestowed upon the Cubans
while the South Koreans settled for the Bronze.
