First Statement - 4/19/01
A statement by Michael Gastonguay, President and Founder of wireMEDIA/sportsWIRE

Well there are plenty of issues for me to address, some public, some not. Let me be the first to give you my opinion on some of the recent developments of myself, my projects, and my future.

SPORTSWIRE/WIREMEDIA DEVELOPMENTS

First off, I am going to finalize everything for the "hiatus" of sportsWIRE during the next few weeks. What we are looking at is a shut down and archive of all our work on the Freeservers host.  The date of completion will most likely be one week following the Stanley Cup championship is awarded.
At that time, we are archiving all of our progress since our 1998 inception and making these available through another page at "www.wiremedia-sportswire.freeservers.com".
Our television programming will continue to air until the begining of September. Three more shows are set for the bill including "sportsWIRE eXtreme", "sportsWIRE's summerMADDNESS", and "sportsWIRE Classic". The titles and the content of these shows have not been finalized.

FUTURE OF WIREMEDIA/SPORTSWIRE...

There is a possibility of "sportsWIRE" making a comeback in the future. I've been to Emerson College (which is actually where I am composing this statement) and have seen some of the media ventures that are made available to students. There's opportunities in radio, television, and print here and sportsWIRE could easily participate in any or all of them.
If this is the case, we will most likely look to entertain the Boston audiences and work from the stations here at Emerson. However, I wouldn't set a date yet as settling into student life is still my biggest priority here.

EMERSON COLLEGE

As I said, I'm drafting this statement here at Emerson's fully stocked (and expensively equiped) computer labs. I'm here on a preview of campus life and I have to say that I'm impressed. The students, faculty, and staff alike have shown me an excellent time and I'm proud to say that this will be my new home come Fall 2001.  Boston life should treat me well (as long I as don't drive). There's plenty going on in Boston sports and I'm looking forward to my many opportunities here.

FINAL PROJECTS

We may be shutting down come June, but there's still plenty of work left till then. We will be going to selected baseball games in the Northeast and we'll report back on all of them. Hockey's playoffs are in full swing as well, and the Special Olympics are not to be forgotten either. We will be adding pictures from the "RAW IS sportsWIRE" event soon and plenty more so be sure to visit us often!!!

PROJECT CUTOFFS

We've set up the "tentative" shutdown date at one week following the Stanley Cup championships. This should give us ample time to complete any and all projects we've committed to. With the exception of one... We gave the Beverly YMCA and Coordinator Ryan Allen the idea that we would be willing to set up web services for the new outdoor youth rollerhockey league in beverly. We will unfortunately be forced to revoke this offer as sportsWIRE will be shutdown soon after their season starts.

OTHER ROLLER HOCKEY OPINIONS...

We do apoligize for this incoveince to the Beverly YMCA. However, I have had a less than pleasing experience with the EMRHL. Do to my work with the special olympics, I have not been ableto make good on my commitment to my roller hockey players' schedule with Dan Leveillee's "Crusaders" team. I'll be the first to admit that this was unfair to my captain and teammates. But the level of negativity from the team has been unnacceptable. They have directed insulting banter towards myself and former sportsWIRE contributer, Jonathon Glidden on their public message forum. This type of behavior will not be tolerated by wireMEDIA/sportsWIRE and therefore, we do plan to revoke all web coverage and alliences with the EMRHL immediatley after we continue to operate following our spring break.
On a personal note, I have not decided if I will rejoin the team should they make it to the second week of the EMRHL Saturday championship tournament. This will be a game time decision. I will weigh my options concerning my association with the Crusaders as a player, and the connections I currently have with the Danvers Kiwanis special olympics team.

MORE ON THE SPECIAL OLYMPICS....

Regardless of my personal hockey schedule, I will be back on track with the Kiwanis team on May 5. The regional special olympics track and field games will take place the following week at Bishop Fenwick High School. You can bet like snow in winter that I'll be there with the sportsWIRE Hookup!!

VARIOUS SHOUTOUTS AND USELESS WORDS!!

Anyways, I want to wrap up this statement but first some thanks are in order. First to Carlos Foglia and Dave Cutter at Emerson College for hookig me up with my preview. Also to dj_whatever, (yeah, you know him) for  not only tagging along with sportsWIRE for "RAW IS sportsWIRE", but for giving sportsWIRE some great BoSox tix. Plus an aimless shotout to Ty Conklin and congrats on the Oilers contract, and also to the big 77 whose time WILL come this June!!
I wish you all well and thanks for joining me on this project!!
